Simpliest 2 watt FM transmitter with PCB and details

USE DIPOLE ANTENNA FOR MAXIMUM RANGE (COULD BE UP TO 10 KM IN GOOD WEATHER). TUNE BETWEEN 88-108 MHz WITH C5. BB-204 COULD BE REPLACED WITH CONVENTIONAL LED (BIG) WITH REVERSE BIAS (NO LIGHT GIVEN IN CORRECT POLARITY). 9V POWER FOR 2KM WITH GOOD SOUND QUALITY AND GRADUALLY UP TO 18V FOR 10 KM RANGE WITH POOR QUALITY OF SOUND.  BEST OF LUCK.

  10. years ago i've built this exact circuit and it works quite well. i didn't have access to 2N3553 so i used BC219S (with star shaped heatsinks) and reduced supply voltage of 6V. the coil can be made using insulated wire. wire should be 0.8mm (AWG20) or thicker (thicker wire means better Q, because of skin effect), have 6 turns wound on 5mm object (I used 5.5mm drill bit as a core), then one has to to skratch insulation in the middle of the coil and solder center-tap lead. finally add 1-2 turns for secondary (for antenna) and while it's together, solder coils to PCB (all leads should be as short as possible, keep them under 5mm or so). finally object used as core is removed (air core coil). for best results one can insert small strip of sponge and drip some hot wax over it. this will help secure coil shape and reduce effects of ambient change (moisture in air etc.).

  11. if you can't find varicap/varactor diode (D1), use any common transistor, just remove E and use BC section (you will need two of them). D1 is there just to ensure correct polarity. you can remove it or use any rectifier diode (1N4001 for example).
